SHOW RIDER OF THE MONTH
Alyssa Walsh was just 3 years old when she started riding. Alyssa received her first pony when she was 4 years old and the pony was shared by herself and her sister Taryn.
Soon after beginning her riding career Alyssa started riding competitively and found a love for the show ring. At age 6 Alyssa headed off to her first Sydney Royal Easter Show (1996). She attended the royal with a little welsh pony named Rodger. Together the pair came away with her first Royal ribbon (4th in the led welsh pony under 12.2). Since then Alyssa has competed at 22 Sydney Royal Shows and multiple other Royals, Show Horse Council and Equestrian Australia events.
In 1997 Alyssa Rode at her first ever NSW Horse of the Year and she has continued to competed every year since.
Recent results for Alyssa include:
ACT & SOUTHERN NSW Hack Championships, awarded the 2017 Runner up Adult Rider 21 years and under 30 years. Riding “FRANCE” owned by Alanna Richards.
NSW Pacific Coast Hack Championships, awarded the 2018 Champion adult rider 21 years and under 30 years. Riding “HALLE BERRY IMP” owned by Shelby Bragg.

As well as her success in lady rider classes, and obtaining numerous Grand Nationals qualifiers Alyssa has produced and owned well performed horses including, Harrington Park Paper moon who was awarded runner up Open pony at Darwin Royal.
And successful show Galloway Sanlirra Gypsy Rose-Lee, who was recently awarded winner of the 2018 Dimond Deluxe Graduate Galloway.
Alyssa’s favorite win to date is NSW HOTY runner up Rider 21 years and under 30 years.
Alyssa says, ‘it has always been such a prestigious event and one of my main goals for 2018 was to be in the winner’s circle in the adult rider class’.
‘I was fortunate enough to have the ride on the beautiful “HALLE BERRY IMP” owned by Shelby Bragg. A big thank you goes to my best friend Emma Adams who stuck by my side in the rain, helped to whip me into shape and give me the confidence I needed to go into the ring and do my best.’
‘It is a surreal feeling hearing your name called out. Alyssa got to share the win with long-time friend and fellow competitor Tealer Rae Williams who was awarded the champion for 2018.
Alyssa is sponsored by Giddy Up Girl Australia. Alyssa and her sister Taryn were lucky enough to be selected to work for Giddy Up Girl at Equitana 6 years ago and after the event gained their sponsorship.
Alyssa and Taryn are now the proud owners of KTA Equestrian the Major Giddy Up Stockist for NSW.
Alyssa is lucky enough to have some great clients and a team of beautiful horses between sister Taryn and herself. However, not a single moment in Alyssa’s riding career would have been possible without the consistent help and support of her mum and dad.
‘From the bottom of my heart I thank them for all the sacrifices they have made just so I could ride’
